I often get emails, tweets and texts asking questions about myself and my blog. So, I thought I would take a moment every once in a while to answer these inquiries.
What kind of t.v. shows do you watch?
Lately, I've been really stressed out about not being able to watch enough t.v. Our laptop died last week so I have been really behind on my shows and knowing that they are going on without my viewing them makes me anxious because I am so far behind. Plus, it makes me super cautious because I know I'm going to run into someone who is going to spill the beans about who got voted off my shows.
But, since you asked, here goes...I watch (faithfully) Survivor. This is the only show Wes and I watch together. I've been watching since the Richard Hatch years and although the person who wins is usually not my favorite (I'm part of the I hate Parvarti club) I still like the show.
I also watch Amazing Race (but I haven't watched the finale yet because it is on Sunday and against my will, we are not allowed to watch t.v. on Sundays, so don't tell me who wins- I'm really hoping for Zev and Justin or Mallory and Gary!). I also watch Friday Night Lights and every Dateline/20 20/48 Hours Mystery about wives who kill their husbands.
How do you handle having teenage daughters?
With a big fat dose of humor! Humor is the ticket when it comes to teenagers. Where might I have learned that lesson, you ask? Watching the movie 'Cheaper by the Dozen' I'll say. Remember in that show when the dad (played by Steve Martin) gets all frustrated with the Charlie (the oldest son) when he breaks curfew and he calls him "Teenager", that is when I learned you have to deal with your teenagers by laughing at them, or with them if you will, but getting frustrated does not work! The problem with getting frustrated with teens is that they are much larger than they used to be. Often they are as big or bigger than you. So, getting really ticked off and dragging them to their room for a "time out" or using the straight jacket hold with them on your lap does not work as well anymore. It is too strenuous and you could throw your back out in the process.
Emma really likes to give us a chance to laugh around here. Just the other night she tried to threaten me about something she thought was owed to her. So, instead of blowing my top, I just laughed at/with her about how clever yet wrong she was. She didn't think it was funny, but the rest of us sure did!
How do you have such awesome hair?
Basically, I was born with it. Actually, that isn't true, I was born bald, but it grew in and it was awesome. I was really born with only three awesome attributes- my hair, my legs and my brain. Now, don't be sad if your hair isn't as awesome as mine, you were born with awesome attributes too, just not the same as me. All is fair in love and war. All is fair.
So, my hair is naturally blond and naturally wavy. It is neither too thick or too thin. All of these things help it to look great without much effort on my part. I can go either very curly (like I am today) or stick straight. I very rarely do the wavy thing because I really don't like that look on me. My hair also grows very fast, so I can change my hairstyle easily and not have to be worried about it taking years to grow it back to where it used to be. Also, my hair takes everything. Meaning if you give it a perm, boy howdy it will take it. If you give it some color- presto! Colored it will be. If you style it a certain way it will stick, no falling flat around here (having wavy hair helps with this IMO). Also, I don't have any grey hair. My mom is 65 and she doesn't have grey hair either. So, I don't have to go to a colorist every six weeks to cover my grey, because I don't have any!
So, since inquiring minds want to know, here are the deets. Everyday, except for days I am lazy, I wash and condition my hair. Then I towel dry it, comb it out and apply some product. Usually I use CHI silk infusion (if I want it straight) or Bumble and Bumbles styling lotion (if I want it curly). Then I dry it, style it, spray it and I'm good to go. My sister-in-law Sarah trims my hair every so often and that is the whole story folks. No supplements, no perms, no coloring, no Brazilian blowouts. Just plain old naturally awesome hair!
Well, that's all the time I have for now. I'll try to answer more questions soon, don't worry.
